Journal 9: 23/06/2011

Today is the last day that I'll be working on my assignment. I made some changes on the database. I had a probem with creating a drop down box. Then I followed the step on the internet. And I understood it. I made a drop down box for student events. And I also put validation rules for each tables. This allows the users to enter specific data into the database.
I already mentioned this on the prospectous that this system needs a few improvements. One of them is make a new results entry whih will calculate individual's points and house points.

Journal 8: 19/06/2011

Tonight, I added a few things on my database, such as querries, forms and reports. It was very hard. I had to try it for a few times. I found a problem, access wont let me to import the original data from excel (spreadsheet). I made a new table then it will let me to import the data. After I saved it, I lost my data again, then I tried to import it again, it wont let me.
It seems to be access can't read the file form.

I sent a few questions to Mr. Cadd last Sunday and I got the results this afternoon. From these results I was able to determine the client's need/want even though I already have an idea what they need. The client didn't mention budget that they wanted to spend for this new system. I estimated the budget and it was $5000. This budget will conver the designing, implementing and designing processes.
Next lesson, I need to keep continue with creating tables.

Journal 6: 10/06/2011

Today's lesson I started my database table. I made 3 different tables, this include: students, event and event record tables. Student tables include, first and last name and house. Event tables include even name, record, time, winner and age group. And event records include event name, record and age.

I keeo forgetting myself to interview Mr. Cadd so I can estimate the designing and implementation cost. I need to have some questions before next lesson.

Journal 5: 23/5/2011

Today I recieved a feedback from Mr. Fenwick. He said that I need to break the tasks down (more specific) and my problem statement needs requires more detail.
I did some changes with time plan, I put the dates and break the tasks into more details.
At the moment, I'm on the right track with my project.

Journal 4: 20/5/2011

Today I updted my project management. I've decide that I'm going to use parallel system conversion to implement the new system. By the end 2011, cross counrty and foundation day sport carnivals will be running the new system and by the end 2012 all sport carnivals will be running the new system. I chose parallel system conversion because it's the safest method, but it costly.
Next lesson, I need to finish watching the tutorial video so I can start building my new database system which based around Micrsoft Access.

Journal 3: 18/5/2011

Today I updated my feasibility study and it's almost finished. I also listened/watched the Microsoft Access tutorials video that Mr. Fenwick gave me. Before next week, I will finish my feasibilty study so I can get start it on my designing part. I almost fiished my project management. I'm up to designing part. Next class, I will keep continue doing the project management.

Journal 2: 5/5/2011

Today I sent my first draft of my Gantt Chart to Mr. Fenwick. I updated my problem statement, requirement report and ISC diagram. I also started my Feasiblity report. I use Microsoft Publisher because it's easy to use and I've used it a few times. Before the next class I need to have my interview questionns with Mr. Cadd and finish my feasibility study.

Journal 1: 4/5/2011

Today I started on my project. I made my Gannt Chart on Microsoft Excell. I used MS Excell because it's easy to use and doesn't cost me anything. I also started on my problem statement. I used Microsoft Word to do my project, because it's easy to use. I found out what were the problems with the old system. I almost finished my ISC diagram.
